Rusty Saxifrage

Saxifraga ferruginea - Locally common, summer, perennial, 6-20 in. Rosette of 1-3 in. leaves, tall erect stem. Leaves egg-shaped, fleshy, with coarse sharp teeth near tip. Flower stem rusty-colored, with widely spreading branches, lower bracts with bulblets that make new plantlets. Flower petals oval, 3 upper petals larger, each with 2 yellow to orange spots, 2 lower petals smaller and plain white. Grows in wet banks, rocks, from sea level to subalpine. Some plants have all or most flowers replaced by bulblets. Native.
