Thyme-Leaved Speedwell

Veronica serpyllifolia - Perennial herb from creeping, branching rhizomes; stems 10-30 cm long, also creeping and forming mats, rooting at the nodes, finely hairy. Leaves opposite, elliptic to egg-shaped, entire or weakly toothed; the lower leaves short stalked, hairless, 1-2.5 cm long. Flowers bright blue or whitish with dark-blue lines, 4-8 mm wide, saucer-shaped, stalked; several to many in terminal racemes that become long and lax. Grows in moist meadows, streambanks, clearings, often on disturbed sites; common but rarely abundant, from low to sometimes high elevations.
