Perennial Sweetpea ( Everlasting Pea)

Lathyrus latifolius Common, all spring and summer, perennial, 2-8 ft. Sprawling from a single root. Stems have 2 opposite wings along sides. Leaves short, with wide wings, holding pair of lance-shaped to oval, pointed leaflets; branched tendril coiled at end of leaf midvein. Flowers clustered at top of long flower stalk, 4-15 reddish purple or occasionally white sweetpea flowers. Grows in moist soils along roads, ditches, homesteads, at low to mid elevations. Locally abundant plant throughout Pacific Northwest. Nonnative
