Autumn Willowherb (Parched Fireweed, Tall Annual Willowherb)

Epilobium brachycarpum - Common, late spring-midsummer, annual, 1-6 ft. Stem erect, branched. Lower stem smooth, with outer layer peeling, some rigid hairs om upper stem. Leaves lance-shaped, mostly alternate, folded at midvein, to 2. in long, deciduous at bloom time. Flowers pinkish purple to white, held on upper branches variable in size. Grows on dry soils at all elevations. Extremely variable species, particularly in terms of flowers size. Native.
