Xu Chu with a black broken-flower face has a role in the opera "Changban Slope," adapted from an episode in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." This is the story of how Zhou Yun,, a general of Shu, saved Liu Bei's baby son, Ah Dou. Carrying the baby against his chest, he fought off a succession of Cao Cao's toughest generals, including Xu Chu, at Changban slope and returned safely in Liu Bei's camp.
