Transportation in China in 1988 Pigs on the Way to Market - 34 A farmer and his wife get ready to take their pigs to the city to sell. Why carry him? Why not walk him to the market? It is simple. First pigs don't walk well in a straight line and second he would loose too much weight on the walk and weight is money. Third hand labor costs nothing but your sweat. Farmers can get rich when they live near enough to the city to take their goods there to sell. It is a lot of work to haul this cart many miles to town. Pigs are almost comatose when laid on their back. On to Scene 35 Back to Scene 33Hi-Res Pic (152K) Back to 1988 Transportation - Page 5 |
