8. Refugees wait to board LSTs

The Communists treated the civilian population extremely harshly. Time after time we would see row on row of dead civilians with their hands tied in the back. Here the population of this area votes with their feet as they board an LST that will take them south to safety. Some 100,000 succeeded in getting transportation on ships. Others used their feet to walk to the south. There was not room for all that wanted to flee but every spare ship was used to help those we could help.
