Noll Goes to Korea Aboard the Robin Trent 581st Signal Co. at Inchon (1950)
3. Noll Goes to Korea Aboard the Robin Trent

Because I was a truck driver I was required to stay with my truck. The others in the company that were not truck drivers went on a troopship. In that way someone is with each truck to drive it on and off of the ship. This was the case each time we went by boat. From Japan to Korea. From Inchon to Wonson and from Hungnam to Pusan. The truck and trailer were loaded by crane in Japan. Everywhere else we were loaded or offloaded onto landing craft and then taken to the beach to drive off the landing craft.

In Inchon we were taken ashore in an LST, which is a very large landing ship. All of these craft have bow ramps and just run aground to let you off. It was all very exciting for me. You sleep in a ship's hold in your sleeping bag. You are given C Rations for food.
