We Tear Down our Relay Station 581st Radio Relay Co. in North Korea (1950)
26. We have been Relieved of our Duty here

We have been given permission to tear Down our Radio Relay Station. The First Marine Division has broken out of their encirclement and no longer need our communications. Sergeant Jungers can be seen on the left. Cpl. Price and Cpl. Noll walk on the right. The Lt. and the Captain talk to the town leaders in the middle. They are sad to see us leave. The bare spot shows where our living tent had been. The cook/mess tent lies beyond that. We leave it for the people. Due to the snow only the Captain's Jeep can drive to the top. Our two weapons carriers remain at the bottom of the hill.

Everything must be carried down the hill on people's back. A sense of urgency pervades everything. We have a way to go north to meet with the main road to go south to Hungnam and safety.
