Every day we were not on duty we were allowed to go on pass to anywhere we wanted to go. There were many interesting things to see and do. I walked up and down many of the streets. People were extremely friendly to me everywhere I went. I enjoyed Japan very much. I bought a lot of things to send home. I made friends with some Japanese merchants and they would invite me to their home. You had to be careful in that the electric current was 25 cycles and you could not buy anything electric.
