We Get a Squad of ROK Troops to Guard our Station 581st Signal RR Co. on Hill 1157 in Korea, 1951
28. Squad of ROK Troops Guard our Station on Hill 1157

At a number of stations we were assigned a group of soldiers to guard the station. Some stations had been attacked in the past and the signalmen have so many duties that they would give us help. On this occasion they gave us a squad of South Korean Soldiers. They were nice guys and I made friends with them especially since I could speak their language. They were nice enough to give me this portrait of their group. Once we had Thailand soldiers. Once we had a light tank outfit. Their tank did not have antifreeze in it so the radiomen who were on duty volunteered to start the engine every couple of hours. Once we had Greek soldiers and once we had Turks.

I once had to translate for a British Major to a Korean who spoke English but couldn't understand the Major. It made the Major so mad that they could understand me but couldn't him. I explained in Korean to the Korean why the Major was so angry. I had some trouble understanding the Major myself.    Hi-Res Pic (186K)
