Richmond Relay Station Pic 3 Richmond Relay - 1969-70 3. Company Headquarters in Taejon

I do not know were the name Stonestown Compound comes from or where it might have originated but it was small and outside of town in an industrial area and had a ROK Army facility next to it. It consisted of about a dozen old Quonset huts and about 4 block residences for the officers and other VIP's. There was a motor pool, Consolidated Mess Hall, an Open NCO Club, snack bar, barracks, and a VHF radio site called Hartford. Also a radio supply, general supply and a HQ building for Company C.

I stayed there a few days getting issued my M-14 rifle, helmet, pack with all types of field gear and some winter clothing. This consisted of field pants with a liner, a liner and hood for our field jacket, another parka with a liner and hood, gloves with liner inserts a scarf, a winter "gomer" hat with ear flaps, wool fatigues, over sized rubber boots we called "Mickey Mouse" boots and a few other items. It was nice to have them but nothing would be able to keep out the cold during the Korean winters yet coming in my Two Tours of Duty.
