Mao detailed this Army to cross the mountains, move south, and engage the ROK divisions. It was the leading element of this Army, 124th Division that engaged in action against 7th Marine Regiment south of Sudong 3 November. Badly cut up in actions of 3 to 6 November. General Lin Biao commanded this Division and later becomes a Chinese Marshal in 1955. This was his only defeat in his military career. Later in 1971 he attempted to assassinate Chairman Mao. Discovered, he fled to Outer Mongolia and dies in the crash of his plane. While the Marines insist Lin Biao was in Korea the Chinese insist he was not there.
