Northern Harrier

Circus cyaneus - A slim common hawk of grasslands and marshes; feeds largely on rodents. The white rump is prominent. Shares hunting grounds with Rough-legged Hawk, which is much heavier and shorter tailed. In gliding, the wings long and narrow, but not pointed as a falcon's, are held above the horizontal. Flies a few feet above the ground, tilting from side to side. Migrating birds fly high, often soar. Typical call, about 10 short, sharp whistles.
