Yellow-headed Blackbird Xanthocephalus Xanthocephalus. Locally common to abundant in cattail and tule marshes. No other North American bird has yellow head and black body. White wing patch is lacking in females and first-year males. The brownish females are easily overlooked in large flocks of blackbirds. Song of low rasping notes ends in a long descending buzz.
