Star Flowered False Solomon's Seal

Maianthemum stellatum Common, late spring, perennial, 1-2 feet. Stem upright, unbranched, arching above middle. Stem straight or may zigzag between leaves. Leaves alternate, sessile or grasping stem, widely oval, with pointed tip. Flowers 12 or fewer, starry-looking, with individual stalks at top. Berries greenish yellow turning blue or black with age. Grows in moist woods, along streams, throughout western North America below 6500 feet. Our shaded woodland is profuse with these plants.
