Devil's Churn State Park, Oregon Coast

9. Devil's Churn SP from the Viewing area at the Top

The Devils Churn is a fissure in the rock that the incoming tide rushing in makes a spectacular sight. You can walk down to the bottom or view it from the top. When the tide is just right it is exciting to see the waves fight against the rock. We love to take our sons to the bottom and see the crashing waves. Once a wave got Bernice soaked. This day the sea was quite calm.

The basalt that forms the shore here is penetrated by a split in the rock that narrows to a few feet before finally disappearing into the cliff. Fascinating in the summer, it is awe-inspiring during winter storms. Parking is provided on two levels with restroom facilities between them. It is usually possible to park an RV here without difficulty.
