False Pixie Cup Lichen

Cladonia chlorophaea A medium-sized, upright club lichen, 10-15mm tall, arising from clusters of tiny, grey basal scales; clubs unbranched, pale greenish, hollow, covered in powdery or somewhat glandular soredia, terminating in flaring cups, these occasionally ringed with brown fruiting bodies. Found on acid mineral soil, moss and humus, especially in open sites, at all elevations; sometimes on tree bases; common.
