Pacific Sanicle

Sanicula crassicaulis - Common, midspring, perennial, 1-4 ft. Erect. Stem thick. Leaves alternate, divided into 3 or possibly 6 lobes, very sharply toothed; lower leaves with long petioles; upper leaves sessile. Flowers yellow, sometimes tinted purple, in 3-12 in. umbels at stem top; bracts at base of umbel are large, leaf-like. Grows on open slopes, woodlands, ravines near coastline and low elevations. Crassiscaulis means "thicken stem." A variable and widespread plant. Native.
