Emperor Xuan (Zhu Zhanji) initiated some successful reforms in the management of the empire and continued the reinforcement of the Great Wall begun by Chengzu. During his reign a period of lethargy set in by Renzu continued. Also the retreat from the seas as well as from the land continued.
